Thukpa for All in USBBY’s Outstanding International Books List
Karadi Tales is delighted to announce that our book Thukpa for All by Praba Ram, Sheela Preuitt and Shilpa Ranade has made it to the prestigious Outstanding International Books list 2020 by the United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY).
“The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) is a non-profit organization devoted to building bridges of international understanding through children’s and young adult books; it serves as the U.S. national section of the International Board on Books for Young People.
The Outstanding International Books (OIB) committee is charged with selecting international books that are deemed most outstanding of those published during the calendar year. For the purposes of this honour list, the term “international book” is used to describe a book published or distributed in the United States that originated or was first published in a country other than the U.S.” (USBBY)
Thukpa for All was also featured in the 2019 IBBY list of Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities. It is our second book to be featured on this list, the first being the audiobook version of Little Vinayak, which was featured on the 2013 list. IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote international understanding through children’s books, give children everywhere the opportunity to have access to books with high literary and artistic standards, and encourage the publication and distribution of quality children’s books, especially in developing countries.
